Learn a framework for improving your awareness of your posture and whole body alignment so you can move more efficiently and with less effort.
The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is a set of skills learned in lessons. As your teacher I’ll look at your postural habits and improve your awareness of how poor body mechanics and even psychological stress may exacerbate pain and injury. You’ll then learn how to replace those habits in the way of your body-mind connection with more beneficial ones. As an educational process, Alexander Technique can alleviate pain and provide long-term prevention.
Pilates
Pilates is a form of exercise, best known for strengthening the innermost, deep muscles we use to maintain our posture – in a supported environment. As your Pilates teacher, you’ll learn how to coordinate these deep muscles and enhance your awareness of habitual patterns that have been preventing your ability to generate the force and power you need in sudden, dynamic and goal oriented movement.
What is Whole Body Movement?
Whole body movement, athletically (punching, throwing, biking, jumping) or functionally (reaching for a glass in the kitchen cupboard, climbing onto a footstool, lifting a book, keyboarding), need preprogramming of postural support and visual control. Whole body movement uses our innate potential to synchronize oppositional forces at play within and surrounding us so you can transform them into movement, in real time. Everything we do in life has either a vaguely defined but sometimes specific goal in mind. Regardless what we’re doing there is a detailed motor act we’re asking of ourselves. What is often unknown is the uneven terrain we can find ourselves on. My Pilates practice builds on the Alexander Technique framework – in fact, the core principles of Pilates is quite similar to the core principles of Alexander Technique. How we move in every day life affects how we move with force and direction. When you practice with me, you’ll develop your awareness and muscle coordination to respond to any situation you find yourself in during every day living and sport.
